Educational Policy Studies in Urban Education
As a doctoral advisee and mentee, you can expect to work closely with me and form relationships with other advisees. By an advisee’s second year in the program, they are expected to join the research team, which typically meets monthly in a hybrid or fully remote format. Meetings are coordinated to accommodate everyone’s schedules, and flexibility is offered in response to clear and reasonable communication.
The monthly research team meeting reserves time for advisees to check in with each other about their experiences, to support and share advice with one another. You can also anticipate mandatory one-on-one advising meetings once a semester until you start preparing your dissertation proposal. More meetings are available upon an advisee’s request. We will begin meeting more often, one-on-one, starting with the proposal preparation.
I also coordinate one social per semester, usually on a weekday evening, to bring advisees together in a nonacademic or research setting.
Advisees will have the opportunity to co-author at least one paper for publication by graduation. Writing opportunities provide opportunities to learn about the research process and prepare you for your dissertation.

Dra. Luedke accepts one (1) doctoral student per year.
The University of Illinois Chicago, College of Education, does not offer funding with admission. Given the sociopolitical and economic moment, research grants and assistantships across the institution have decreased. Students are responsible for sourcing their funding, Dra. Luedke will share any and all funding opportunities she becomes aware of.
