Dra. Luedke joins. Dr. Tevis as Co-Chair for the Attendee Engagement Committee

As a long-time member of the Association for the Study of Higher Education (ASHE), I am excited to support the leadership of Dr. Leslie Gonzales, incoming ASHE president, and Dr. Katherine Cho, Conference Committee Chair. I am beginning my service alongside Dr. Tenisha L. Tevis as co-chairs of attendee engagement. Our shared opportunity in this role is to help facilitate meaningful ways to engage throughout the conference outside of the academic programming. We seek to support members in getting to know one another, building their community, and fulfilling their wellness needs. From first-time graduate student members and early-career scholars to returning veterans and everyone in between, we aim to plan events that engage the whole person, not only the scholar. In this role, and in light of the conference theme, I seek to find opportunities for members to connect with the land and one another.
The conference will take place in New Mexico, a land home to many Native communities, the original, and continued, stewards of the land including the Apache, Navajo, Pueblo, and Tigua.

This year Dra. Luedke was nominated and selected to participate in the pre-conference Early Career Faculty Workshop sponsored by the Council for the Advancement of Higher Education Programs. Ten years later, she returns in a major leadership position.
Dra. Luedke named Co-Director of the Center for Urban Education Leadership
The Center for Urban Education Leadership (CUEL) will expand its portfolio in three areas:
1. Leadership preparation and professional development
2. Organizational leadership in PreK – 12 schools and community organizations
3. Leadership in higher education

The UIC College of Education hosted a grand reopening of the Center to raise awareness and open the door to collaboration. During a monthly faculty meeting, former Dean Chval reserved time for the co-Directors to share what steps they have taken to develop and launch a formally collaborative eduacation research and policy team. They shared works in progress and their vision for future work.
